The installation of the latest 1.5 gigawatt (GW) capacity Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind turbines is almost complete.
Hollandse Kust Zuid is located 18-35 kilometers from the Dutch coast, in the North Sea. It is jointly owned by Vattenfall , BASF and Allianz.
On June 2, Vattenfall posted on social media that the final turbine components had been loaded onto the Wind Osprey wind farm ship, and have now arrived on site.
A feat of engineering: Discover the details of Hollandse Kust Zuid’s gigantic wind turbines
The offshore wind farm consists of 140 Siemens Gamesa 11.0-200 DD wind turbines, the largest ever installed on a large scale. They have a rotor diameter of 200 meters and a swept area of 31,400 square meters.
Hollandse Kust Zuid will not only become the world’s largest offshore wind farm – stealing the title from the UK’s 1.3 GW Hornsea 2 – but will also be the world’s first offshore wind farm built without subsidies.
Hollandse Kust Zuid will produce renewable electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of 1.5 million Dutch homes. It is expected to go into operation this summer.
