Biomargas announces two new biomethane plants to drive renewable energy in Cordoba, Spain

According to FAO data, the livestock sector is responsible for 60% of agriculture's greenhouse gas emissions, with methane. With the creation of these plants, the company seeks to capture and use these emissions for energy purposes while contributing to climate change.

Biomargas has announced an investment of 60 million euros for the creation of two new biomethane plants in Córdoba, in the municipalities of Cabra and Castro del Río. These new facilities will focus on the transformation of agricultural and livestock waste into renewable energy and organic fertilizers, contributing to the development of a circular and sustainable economy in the region.

A breakthrough for waste management and the local economy

The construction of these plants is important for Córdoba, as it introduces a technology that allows the efficient management of agricultural and livestock waste. Biomethane, produced from these wastes, is a renewable natural gas that offers a valuable energy yield while minimizing environmental impact. In addition, the production process will generate organic fertilizers, reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers and improving agricultural productivity in the region.

Luis del Barrio, who leads the Biomargas strategy, has highlighted the importance of this project, stressing that it will bring economic benefits, and provide the community’s farmers and ranchers with tools to manage their waste more efficiently. According to del Barrio,“these initiatives demonstrate how innovation and sustainability can generate both economic progress and environmental improvements.”

New biomethane plants and their environmental impact

The plants are located in Cabra and Castro del Río, which will focus on the production of clean energy. In addition, they are designed to improve the quality of life of local residents. Their strategic location on the outskirts of the municipalities will minimize potential nuisances caused by noise, odors and visual pollution.

This investment in Cordoba is part of Biomargas’ broader strategy to expand its presence and promote sustainability throughout Spain. The company is operating plants in other regions and has several projects under development, consolidating its position as a leader in the transition to a low-carbon economy and in promoting the circular economy.

Additionally, Biomargas is working on the implementation of biogenic CO2 capture technologies and the production of organic fertilizers, in compliance with both European and Spanish regulations. These efforts reflect the company’s commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
