BW Ideol introduced to the market a standardized base for floating offshore wind turbines , ready to be mass manufactured and meet the demand of an expanding sector. This innovation comes at a crucial time, as over 22 GW has been allocated in Scotland, approximately 8 GW in the US and several more are in the tender process globally, signaling a stage of industrialization for energy. floating wind .

A universal base for floating offshore wind energy turbines

The company has developed this floating foundation with the intention of expediting the growth of the industry. The design is based on Damping Pool technology, which has been operational in France and Japan since 2018. This universal base has been optimized to adapt to the various metocean conditions prevailing in the main floating wind energy markets, offering three product variants for different environments.

The design is compatible with all wind turbines over 15 MW currently on the market, as reported by BW Ideol . The structure is relatively compact, with dimensions restricted to 54 meters and an operational draft of less than 12 meters, which facilitates its implementation in different locations.

In addition, the company has assured that its design can easily be adapted to future turbines of more than 20 MW , reflecting its ability to evolve alongside technological advances in wind turbines. BW Ideol has also revealed its plans for a modular and replicable manufacturing line that could be implemented in various port infrastructures to facilitate mass production of these floating concrete bases.

Capacity for mass manufacturing

According to BW Ideol, this production model has demonstrated the ability to manufacture up to one base per week . Paul de la Guérivière, founder and CEO of BW Ideol, highlighted that the floating wind energy market is at a decisive moment, requiring the construction of dozens of gigawatts in the coming years.

Likewise, he stressed the importance of adopting a standardized approach similar to that of wind turbine manufacturers , producing a uniform product adaptable to various geographies and types of turbines, to ensure that developers have clarity and confidence in the future of the sector.

BW Ideol’s standardized approach to the production of floating wind bases, in addition to optimizing the manufacturing process, could serve as a model for other industries seeking to scale production while minimizing costs and maximizing efficiency. This method could revolutionize not only the wind energy sector, but also other fields of renewable energy, promoting faster and larger scale adoption of sustainable technologies.
