Bibby Marine has officially started the construction of its first eCSOV, a hybrid-electric vessel designed to operate with zero emissions. The keel laying ceremony took place at Armon Shipyard in Vigo, consolidating its commitment to a cleaner future in the offshore wind industry.
Hybrid eCSOV will reduce emissions and operate for 30 days
To start with, this new 6,700 GT vessel will combine methanol engines engines with advanced batteries, enabling commissioning and offshore support operations for up to 30 days with capacity for 120 people on board. This technological combination represents a significant advance in reducing emissions and fuel consumption in offshore operations.
The event was also charged with symbolism. Jonathan Lewis, CEO of Bibby Line Group, welded an 1807 coin to the keel of the ship, a gesture that honors the long history of the British company since its founding.

Offshore industry moves towards zero emissions
This project is part of Bibby Marine’s “E-Mission Zero” campaign, which aims to accelerate the decarbonization of offshore operations. decarbonization of offshore operations. The initiative has key partners such as Kongsberg Maritime responsible for propulsion and dynamic positioning; Corvus Energy supplier of battery systems; and Wartsila in charge of the main engines.
Likewise, the construction of the first eCSOV reinforces the commitment of Bibby Marine and its allies to the energy transition, fostering collaboration within the industry to achieve ambitious environmental goals. Finally, this innovative vessel is expected to enter operation in 2027, becoming a benchmark for sustainability on the high seas.
