Apple began to allow applications that are hosted on its system to sell NFTs (Non Fungible Tokens, or Non-Fungible Tokens) through its App Store.
According to Diario Bitcoin, in the past, the tech giant blocked a cryptocurrency project from its store for including NFT features. But the latest approach suggests that it is opening up to new technology, albeit with strings attached. Precisely, one of them has to do with the 30% commission charged to NFT sellers, a fact that has caused disagreement on many platforms.
According to a report by The Information, “several startups and NFT marketplaces are choosing to limit in-app purchases to circumvent the fee. Although the percentage of the commission is identical to the 30% charge made by the Android Google Play Store”. In the face of criticism, The Information report says that the technology company would be thinking of reducing the commission to 15%.
In other business news, the multinational Walmart recently announced its entry into the metaverse, hand in hand with the Roblox video game platform to offer two new immersive experiences: Walmart Land and Universe of Play.
These tools offer users entertainment events, games and a variety of virtual items that can be found in their physical stores.
Walmart Land will introduce users to a virtual store where Roblox players can purchase merchandise and accessories for their avatars; while Universe of Play is focused on toys and games.
