This ferry has a length of 39.5 meters, and has the capacity to carry 251 passengers, reaching speeds in excess of 30 knots. In addition, its design is focused on minimizing the environmental impact of its maritime operations.

The Vittorio Morace is powered by a hybrid propulsion system hybrid propulsion system developed by Rolls-Royce. The electric component of the system is used for emission-free navigation in port areas and as an auxiliary propellant. Rolls-Royce has indicated that CO₂ emissions are reduced, by the use of mtu’s 4000 series diesel engines, which can run on renewable diesel, reducing the CO₂ footprint by up to 90%.

The new ferry is named after the shipping company’s founder, and is the first of a series of nine ferries that will operate between Sicily and the Aeolian and Egadi islands, as well as between the Italian mainland, Croatia and Slovenia. In addition, Liberty Lines plans to add another eight ferries with hybrid mtu systems in service in Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.
