South Africa’s AngloGold Ashanti is evaluating using electric trucks at its Brazilian operations and renewable energy in Argentina as part of a plan to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.
The company announced a prefeasibility study for the Brazilian Cuiabá mine that will study the benefits of replacing part of the fleet with battery electric vehicles. In addition, he pointed out that it is close to completing its transition to the exclusive use of hydroelectricity through the Brazilian network.
AngloGold is also evaluating the construction of a wind farm at Cerro Vanguardia in Argentina.
The company recently set a goal of achieving a 30% absolute reduction in its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 through a series of renewable energy projects, fleet electrification and low-emission energy sources. It also indicated that it will invest USD 1.1 billion to implement all the measures in the next eight years.
