America's richest oilman

Autry C. Stephens, the richest oilman in the United States and founder of Endeavor Energy Resources, died at the age of 86. The news was announced in an official statement issued yesterday afternoon by the company.

Stephens, who stood out as one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the U.S. oil industry, leaves behind an indelible legacy both in his company and in the Permian Basin where his vision and tenacity transformed the energy landscape.

Autry Stephens: America’s Richest Oilman

Autry Stephens was born on a farm in DeLeon, Texas, where he learned from an early age the value of hard work. His passion for the oil industry led him to found Endeavor Energy in 2000, after a long career with companies such as Humble Oil. Under his leadership, Endeavor became one of the largest private oil producers in the U.S., operating more than 2250 vertical wells and drilling more than 1380 horizontal wells.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved founder, Autry C. Stephens. For many decades, his vision and discipline inspired many people and were the driving forces behind what makes Endeavor unique. Autry embodied the wild mindset of courage, determination and tenacity associated with the Permian Basin. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to shape the future of our company, our community and the oil and gas industry for years to come.

said Lance Robertson, president and CEO of Endeavor.

Endeavor Energy Resources’ new board of directors

Importantly, Lyndal Stephens Greth, who previously served as vice president, will assume the role of chairman of the board, ensuring the continuation of her father’s legacy at the company. Stephens is not only remembered for his business success, but also for his humility, courage and deep connection to the Midland community.

Last February, Endeavor announced a merger with Diamondback Energy, Inc.in a deal that is expected to close in the coming months. This transaction, which was developed under Stephens’ supervision, will further consolidate Endeavor’s position in the energy industry.

Autry Stephens’ legacy will continue to shape the oil and gas industry for years to come, as his company continues to move forward with the same determination and vision he instilled.
