Amazon will launch its new Astro home robot, which autonomously patrols the house and has built-in cameras, a periscope and a screen. It works with Alexa, has computer vision, facial recognition, and can patrol rooms.
According to Amazon, this device is based on the concept of “environmental intelligence”, artificial intelligence and user assistance, aimed at caring for dependents or pets. Astro can investigate noises or activities and report unexpected events. You can also search for a person to start a video call.
Astro navigates the house autonomously, moving on three wheels, maps the home, understands the environment, avoids obstacles, responds differently to some voice commands, plays music, performs searches, creates to-do lists and dances ‘beatbox ‘.
Amazon acknowledges that it was inspired by science fiction to design this robot, hoping to bring robots to most homes. Astro belongs to the Day 1 program of experimental products and will be on sale later this year for a price of $999.99.
