ReElement Technologies, a subsidiary of American Resources, has entered into an alliance with Jupiter Lithium, a UK-based company, to develop Nigeria’s first lithium deposit. This collaboration promises to establish Nigeria as a regional pioneer in lithium mining and the production of batteries and electric vehicles.
Nigeria’s lithium project
The Jupiter Critical Minerals Project covers a vast area of 442 km² and is expected to play a key role in building a robust local industry with production capacity. Currently focused on contract mining, Jupiter Lithium has expansion plans to operate independently on a large scale. This includes the installation of a spodumene concentrate plant, which is estimated to produce 55,000 tons of 6% lithium spodumene concentrate annually, starting in the first quarter of 2025.
ReElement will be responsible for the design and operation of a lithium and critical minerals refinery, processing the spodumene concentrate to extract high purity lithium carbonate, among other essential minerals. ReElement’s chromatographic purification technology is important for the establishment of a lithium carbonate processing plant in the region, with active plans for site selection and the pursuit of financing with regional investors.
The project will be developed in several phases, including exploration, development, mining and processing, thus ensuring its economic viability and minimizing long-term risks. This approach is also supported by the Nigerian government and is expected to contribute to the country’s economic diversification. In addition, ReElement’s exclusive purchase agreement will guarantee a local supply of lithium carbonate. lithium carbonate with a purity of more than 99.9%.
