ACCIONA Energía has begun construction of a biomass plant in Logrosán, Spain , with the mission of converting forestry and agricultural waste into renewable thermal energy . This facility, which will come online in 2025, will have a capacity of 49.9 megawatts and an estimated annual production of 376 GWh. This is equivalent to supplying electricity to approximately 108,000 homes.
Local resources as an energy engine
The plant will use only local raw materials, avoiding the emission of 187,000 tons of CO₂ per year , equivalent to removing more than 40,000 cars from the roads. This initiative is aligned with the national strategy to reduce energy dependence and promote sustainable production in rural areas.
During its construction phase, 434 direct jobs will be created, and it is estimated that during operation, 932 direct, indirect, and induced jobs will be created. The project will have a significant impact on the local economy, particularly on SMEs and self-employed professionals, who will benefit from an estimated annual return of €11 million.
A biomass plant and forest management to prevent fires
The intensive use of plant residues provides clean energy and helps keep Extremadura’s forests clearer. This removal of combustible material becomes an effective fire prevention measure, promoting more responsible forest management.
ACCIONA Energy’s commitment is part of a broader plan for social impact in the area, in line with the circular economy model. Projects like this reinforce biomass’s position as one of the renewable technologies that generates the most employment, demonstrating that energy development can go hand in hand with the recovery of the rural environment.
