Recently, the American Bureau of Shipping ( ABS ) granted an Approval in Principle ( AIP ) to ECO TLP and MOCEAN-Offshore BV for their innovative floating platform design for offshore wind turbines.

The efficient and optimized floating offshore wind power design

The ECO TLP concept integrates slip-cast concrete cylindrical shells and gravity anchors, differentiating itself from conventional structures that employ stabilized steel columns. In addition, its tension leg mooring system minimizes the required space, allowing better adaptation to complex environments and reducing installation and maintenance costs.

Floating offshore wind will play a key role in the global energy transition by extending the reach of renewable generation capacity into waters that are too deep for fixed-bottom wind projects.

The approved design facilitates the installation of turbines in depths ranging from 250 to 2,000 meters , significantly expanding the location options for offshore wind generation. According to Nicole Johnson Murphy, CEO of ECO TLP, the proposed solution significantly reduces capital and operating expenses through the use of non-proprietary and readily available components.

The project is now moving towards the next stage, the front-end engineering design ( FEED ), where detailed technical studies will be carried out for future implementation. This initiative strengthens the trend towards more accessible and sustainable solutions in the renewable energy sector.
