Aalo Atomics has unveiled a 50 MWe extra-modular reactor ( XMR ), called the Aalo Pod , designed to provide a clean, reliable, and scalable power source to data centers operating at the forefront of digital technology. Based in Austin, Texas , the company has secured over $36 million in funding from investors including Valor Equity Partners , Harpoon Ventures , and Crosscut , demonstrating confidence in its disruptive technology.

Today, energy demands in data centers have grown exponentially due to the rise of cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Data infrastructures must therefore meet strict reliability and scalability requirements, and the Aalo Pod solves these problems by offering a constant, emission-free nuclear power source specifically designed to meet uninterrupted energy demands.

The Aalo Pod uses the Aalo-1 reactor , an advanced modular nuclear reactor technology that allows for customized scaling based on each client’s needs. This extra-modular reactor can be deployed on any site, even in areas where other energy solutions might not be feasible. Furthermore, its design flexibility allows for the addition of additional modules to meet growing energy demands without the need for major infrastructure projects.

The modular reactor offers an efficient 50 MW per module, which can be expanded to generate more power as data center needs grow. This modular design optimizes space utilization and enables rapid deployment, with lead times of just 12 months for an initial Aalo module and shorter lead times for additional modules.

This level of reliability is vital for data center operators who require stable power 24/7. This flexibility extends to the reactor’s location, as it is not dependent on nearby water sources or major energy infrastructure, making it easy to install in a variety of locations, even where other technologies would be difficult to implement.

By generating carbon-free energy , this reactor directly contributes to the carbon emission reduction goals of the companies that adopt it. This energy source is designed to be cheaper and faster to deploy, while maintaining the highest standards in terms of safety and efficiency.
