Real-time offshore connectivity for the Porthos CO₂ project

Tampnet will support Porthos in deploying critical digital infrastructure for the remote operation of the P18-A platform.
Plataforma P18-A

Tampnet, a global leader in real-time offshore connectivity, has been selected by Porthos CO₂ Transportation and Storage C.V. to provide communication services for the first CO₂ injection platform on the Dutch continental shelf.

A platform repurposed for offshore CO₂ storage

The P18-A platform, previously dedicated to natural gas production, is being transformed into an unmanned facility designed to inject CO₂ into depleted gas fields beneath the North Sea. This structure is an essential part of the Porthos project, which aims to store 2.5 million tons of CO₂ annually, with operations expected to commence in 2026.

Tampnet’s Digital Solution

The company will be responsible for implementing and operating the platform’s communication infrastructure, ensuring redundant 25 Mbit/s connectivity. This network is designed to enable continuous monitoring and remote control from shore, ensuring high availability and reliability in an offshore environment.

According to Huib Fenenga, the company’s Country Manager in the Netherlands: “Reliable offshore communications will be essential for safe, efficient, and remote operations. This collaboration with Porthos is strategic and lays the groundwork for future CCS infrastructure developments.”

Impact and Outlook

This agreement represents a natural expansion of Tampnet’s operations in the Netherlands, while also allowing the company to actively contribute to industrial decarbonization. The synergy between connectivity and energy transition is reflected in this initiative, which integrates digitalization, efficiency, and sustainability offshore.
