The ORLEN Group has taken a decisive step at the Hanwha Ocean shipyard in South Korea with the christening of two new liquefied natural gas transport units. These assets, named Danuta Siedzikówna-Inka and Rotmistrz Witold Pilecki, do not represent mere numerical growth, but rather a structural reinforcement of energy security for Poland and its regional allies.

The expansion of the LNG carrier fleet

Likewise, adding these vessels brings the company-owned fleet to eight specialized ships. Each vessel has a capacity of 174,000 m³ of LNG, enabling the transport of approximately 70,000 tonnes of liquefied gas in a single voyage. This logistics autonomy enables the company to manage its contractual deliveries without relying on third-party charters, optimizing costs and operational agility in a volatile global market.

Thanks to the integration of cutting-edge technologies, the ships feature reliquefaction systems that minimize losses during transit. This technical efficiency is complemented by propulsion versatility capable of using natural gas and diesel, staying ahead of international environmental regulations. The strategy is clear: to consolidate natural gas as the necessary transition fuel for the next decade.

Finally, deploying these LNG carriers strengthens the company’s presence in markets as far away as Japan and China. With growing regasification capacity at terminals such as Świnoujście and the future facility in the Bay of Gdańsk, Poland’s national infrastructure is positioning itself as a key logistics hub for the continent’s stability.
