The transit of a European vessel through the Strait of Hormuz marks a key point in the evolution of the Middle East conflict and the stability of global maritime trade.

An unprecedented transit since the start of the conflict

The container ship CMA CGM Kribi, owned by the French shipping giant CMA CGM, has successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz, becoming the first vessel linked to Western Europe to complete this route since the start of the war in late February.

According to maritime tracking data, the vessel set sail from Dubai and navigated along the Iranian coast, passing through the corridor between the islands of Qeshm and Larak. It was subsequently located in the Gulf of Oman, confirming the completion of the transit.

Coordination and control in a strategic route

Furthermore, various sources indicate that the transit was coordinated with Iranian maritime authorities, highlighting the selective control that Iran maintains over this maritime passage.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most critical points in world energy trade. Before the conflict, approximately 20% of oil and liquefied natural gas transited through this waterway daily.

Impact on international maritime transport

On the other hand, most vessels that have crossed the strait since the start of the war belong to Asian operators, with destinations in India, China, and other regional markets.

In this context, the transit of the CMA CGM Kribi could be interpreted as a sign of progressive opening for Western operators, albeit under strictly controlled conditions.

Diplomatic pressure to reactivate the route

At the same time, France and the United Kingdom have intensified diplomatic efforts to restore the normal flow of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

In fact, the United Kingdom recently led a virtual meeting with more than thirty countries to evaluate measures to ensure safety and reactivate this strategic route.

A key indicator for energy trade

Finally, the crossing of this European vessel could influence the gradual resumption of international maritime transit in the area. The evolution of these movements will be decisive for global energy supply and market stability.
