The Mexican Geological Service (SGM) has indicated that lithium deposits are found in at least 18 states of Mexico, covering more than half of the national territory. However, the municipality of Bacadehuáchi, Sonora, is home to the largest lithium deposit in the country, which was recently recovered when concessions granted to a Chinese company were revoked.

Chevron, Shell Offshore and the state of Louisiana, USA have filed a lawsuit with the aim of annulling the reduction in the oil extraction area. In response to this legal action, a federal judge has issued an order forcing the United States Department of the Interior to expand the sale of permits for oil and gas extraction in the Gulf of Mexico.
