Hywind Tampen is producing! The first turbine in the world’s largest floating wind farm started producing electricity in the Norwegian North Sea on 13 November⚡

When completed, Tampen will provide power to the Gullfaks & Snorre fields & reduce CO 2 emissions by 200,000 tons/yr.

— Equinor (@Equinor) November 14, 2022

The Hywind Tampen floating wind farm, the first built in Norway, is located about 140 kilometers from the coast, in waters between 260 and 300 meters deep. It will have a capacity of 88 MW and, according to forecasts, will cover 35% of the electricity demand from the Snorre and Gullfaks platforms, thanks to which it will be possible to reduce CO 2 emissions from these oil fields by around 200,000 tons per year.

Seven of its 11 turbines will have entered service in the remainder of 2022. The remaining four, already assembled, will be installed in the field in 2023. Still, Hywind Tampen will be the world’s largest floating wind farm with a capacity of 60 MW.
