The Ecuadorian Ministry of Energy and Mines reported this week that, after almost two years, the transaction closing phase for the concession to the Spanish company Solarpack of the “El Aromo” photovoltaic project, which will be implemented in the coastal province of Manabí, has concluded.

In December 2020, representatives of the Spanish firm sealed, in a meeting with the then President of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno, the award of a major photovoltaic project on the Ecuadorian coast, an investment valued at that time at around 150 million dollars.

This week, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Xavier Vera, indicated the importance of closing this stage, since with the signing of the concession contract the winning company will invest 144.38 million dollars in the country for power generation clean.

The “El Aromo” photovoltaic project -whose capacity will be 200 megawatts- was awarded in December 2020 to the promise of the Solarpackteam consortium, as a result of a public selection process (PPS), which included seven prequalified companies, of which three submitted offers, it said in a statement.

In application of executive decree 1190 and the technical standards issued this year by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the issuance of the Sustainability and Fiscal Risks Report is expected, which will ensure that private participation is duly considered and registered in the context of fiscal sustainability.
