The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC), granted three new patents to Ecopetrol, which represents 114 patents, six so far this year.
This new grant represents for the state oil company a scientific and technological advance in the monitoring of production waters and the traditional hydrocarbon business.
The inventions, developed with actors from the business and academic sectors, are called:
- Sensor system for the detection and measurement of suspended solids in production water.
- Devices and their method of operation for the measurement and analysis of the flow of face and shear collapses for drilling wells.
- Equipment and method to determine the volumetric shrinkage factor of crude oil mixtures with extra light diluents up to 135° API.
The first patent allows monitoring the quality of production water.
“Based on this system, it is possible to reduce the impact caused by discharges in environmental settings. Likewise, this measurement of variables, generated in partnership with the company JPT Consulting and Services SAS, makes it possible to use the water produced in the sector agribusiness,” he explains.
The second patent is aimed at creating a device to generate an early warning in real time in the event of a possible collapse inside an oil well.
And the third develops a technological solution that improves the decrease in volume obtained by mixing heavy and extra-heavy crude oils with light diluents during transport in pipelines.
These solutions were developed in partnership with the business and academic sectors of the departments of Santander and Cauca.
