CEMEX replaces 200 diesel trucks with natural gas trucks to reduce CO2 emissions

CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. (“CEMEX”) announced that it has incorporated more than 200 natural gas-powered trucks with lower carbon emissions as part of a comprehensive strategy to decarbonize its global fleet. This initiative is part of its flagship Future in Action program to become a net zero_CO2 emissions company by 2050.

The investment in these 200 new vehicles consists mainly of concrete mixer trucks with compressed natural gas (CNG) engines, with lower emissions, or renewable natural gas (RNG). These trucks will have a carbon footprint of approximately 25% less than a diesel truck being replaced.

More than half of the vehicles are located in Mexico, the remaining amount is divided between Southern California in the United States and Colombia.

“Decarbonizing our global fleet requires a multifaceted approach based on innovation,” said Juan Romero, Executive Vice President of Sustainability, Commercial and Operations Development at CEMEX. “Our strategy combines taking immediate action to reduce our carbon footprint with the most advanced technology available today while working with our partners to discover, test and scale the solutions needed to achieve net zero emissions,” he added.

CEMEX has an ambitious scope 3 goal to reduce carbon emissions by 20% by 2030 and is committed to achieving total net zero emissions by 2050.
