U.S. aviation startup Boom Supersonic, is developing the Overture supersonic airliner in partnership with United Airlines, with first flight scheduled for 2026.

Boom claims that the aircraft will run on 100% sustainable aviation fuel and will travel at speeds of Mach 1.7 over water and just under Mach 1 over land.

The aircraft, with series production scheduled to begin in 2029, is expected to be able to fly from New York to London in 3.5 hours, instead of the average time of 7 hours it takes current airline aircraft.

The company has introduced a revised technical design of its aircraft and to create a more efficient and quieter aircraft, Boom reduced the Overture’s passenger capacity, increased its number of engines and reconfigured the aircraft’s fuselage and wings.

The aircraft is designed to travel at Mach 1.7 over water and 0.94M over populated areas, so as not to generate a sonic boom. It will have a range of 8,056 km and a capacity to carry between 64 and 80 passengers. The aircraft is 61.3 meters long and has a wingspan of 32.3 meters.
