The Chinese firm Dajin Heavy Industry has taken a new step in its diversification strategy within the renewable energy sector. In Tangshan, Hebei province, it has started commercial operation of its ambitious Shilihai solar-water farm, a mixed system that integrates photovoltaic generation and fish farming. photovoltaic generation and fish farming and fish farming in the same area.

Solar-aquaculture park with 370,000 panels

This project has an installed capacity of 250 megawatts and covers approximately 353 hectares of ponds for fish farming. fish farming. A total of 370,000 bifacial solar panels, a technology capable of capturing sunlight on both sides and maximizing energy yield by reflecting light off the water, have been installed on these water surfaces.

The model implemented is based on the electricity generation on the upper part and the maintenance of the aquaculture activity on the lower part, allowing an efficient exploitation of the land without compromising the productivity of either of the two activities. According to Offshore Energywith this approach, it is estimated that the plant can produce around 400 million kilowatt-hours per year, which is equivalent to avoiding the consumption of 120,000 tons of coal and reducing CO₂ emissions by 320,000 tons.

The shade generated by the panels also helps reduce water evaporation and improves the thermal conditions of the aquatic ecosystem, which benefits fish health and reduces the incidence of disease.
