Collaboration beyond borders

Corrosion often conjures up technical challenges, asset integrity, or financial loss, but for Jane Brown, CEO of Brown Corrosion Services, it’s also synonymous with collaboration. Based in Houston, Texas, her internal corrosion specialist has built strong relationships with key partners around the world.

This is demonstrated by its alliance with Mach3 Engineering, an Asian company led by Michelle Lau, General Manager, and BactiQuant, a Danish company represented by Aurelia Stephenson, Product Manager. Three leaders in their respective fields who, rather than competing, decided to join forces to form a global network of corrosion solutions.

Jane and Michelle met on the NACE board of directors, and with parallel career paths, albeit in different hemispheres, they found technical complementarity. While one focuses on internal corrosion, the other specializes in external corrosion and cathodic protection. The synergy was natural, and with the addition of BactiQuant, the partnership was further strengthened.

Immediate response bacterial technology

One of the pillars of this collaboration is the use of BactiQuant technology, a real-time measurement system that can detect live bacteria in just 15 minutes. Unlike other methods that measure organisms in general, this approach focuses on active bacteria, allowing for precise response to microbial corrosion inhibitor (MIC) risks.

The product can be shipped to customers for internal operation or used through partners such as Brown Corrosion, Mach3, or Access Integrity. In addition to the technology, the Danish company offers specialized consulting to help interpret the results and adjust the necessary chemical treatments.

Share to multiply

Beyond the technical aspects, this international network also promotes a business vision based on trust and profit sharing. Far from protecting their markets as strengths, these companies open doors, share contacts, knowledge, and even revenue.

I believe we’re stronger together, and I know I’ve always believed that. […] The reality is we can’t reach the whole world. We’re a global network, right? But we need our friends and collaborators, wherever they are, to cheer us on.

Jane Brown.

This decentralized model has allowed the network to expand from the Americas to Asia and the Caribbean, generating business opportunities in previously unexplored locations and providing a more agile and personalized response to customers.

More opportunities, better service

The world of corrosion continues to pose enormous challenges, especially when it comes to its microbiological origin. However, with innovative technological solutions like those from BactiQuant, and a global network based on cooperation, the industry is moving toward more effective, humane, and cost-effective prevention. Because, in the end, combating corrosion isn’t just about steel or bacteria; it’s also about people, relationships, and a willingness to work together.
