ENGIE Chile has secured the contract to develop the Manuel Rodríguez Sectioning Substation , located in the municipality of Tiltil, approximately 50 kilometers north of Santiago. This project represents the company’s first transmission advance within the Metropolitan Region.
Substation in Tiltil will boost solar projects
The infrastructure will be configured with one and a half 220 kV switches, connecting to the National Electric System by sectioning the 2×220 kV Polpaico-Río Aconcagua line. This development seeks to alleviate saturation at the Polpaico national substation and enable greater capacity for the integration of photovoltaic projects .
The bidding process began after the publication of the Decree on Tendering New Works in April 2024 and concluded with the submission of bids to the National Electrical Coordinator in November of the same year.
A commitment to sustainability in Chile
This project is key to strengthening the National Electric System and facilitating the connection of new generation projects, in an area that has established itself as a hub for photovoltaic development. At ENGIE we are proud to be able to contribute to the country with greater electrical transmission infrastructure and to be an active part of the energy transition.
Commented Pilar Acevedo, Managing Director GBU Networks at ENGIE Chile.
With this award, ENGIE Chile reaffirms its commitment to the country’s energy transition, promoting sustainable development and the modernization of the national electrical infrastructure. The new project will guarantee greater security and efficiency in the transmission of energy for renewable energy projects in Chile .
