DEME has secured two essential contracts for the transport and installation of 112 foundations for the Nordlicht 1 and 2 offshore wind farms , located in the North Sea , 85 km from Borkum. In addition, the company will take care of erosion protection at both facilities, strengthening its position in the offshore renewable energy sector.

About the Nordlicht 1 and 2 offshore wind farms

The Nordlicht 1 and 2 wind farms, developed by Vattenfall in collaboration with BASF, will have a combined capacity of 1,610 MW . Their power generation is estimated to benefit 1.7 million households and German industry.

While the contract is subject to a final investment decision, the signing of the agreement marks a key step in the construction of these facilities.

Foundation installation will begin in 2026 with 68 structures at Nordlicht 1, followed by 44 at Nordlicht 2 in 2027. To carry out the operation, DEME will use its flagship Orion , an offshore installation vessel equipped with a 5,000-tonne crane and advanced motion compensation technology, allowing it to work effectively even in adverse conditions.

Boosting the energy transition

Vattenfall and BASF’s commitment to sustainable energy aligns with DEME’s strategy to provide innovative solutions in clean energy.

We are proud to be involved in this project which will significantly contribute to the energy transition in Europe.
