Hitachi Energy and Amprion have signed agreements worth more than 2 billion euros for a project focused on the construction of four converter stations for high voltage direct current ( HVDC ) links in Germany.

An important alliance between Hitachi Energy and Amprion

The clauses of this contract include the HVDC links V48 and V49 , which are part of the so-called Korridor B, a high-power network specialising in the transport of energy from wind farms in the North to industrial areas in the West. With an initial capacity of 4 GW, this system will be able to double its capacity in the future, boosting German energy security.

Amprion relies on Hitachi Energy to execute this project. According to Amprion CTO Dr. Hendrik Neumann, ” Korridor B will be an essential pillar in ensuring the supply of green electricity in Germany and Europe .”

For his part, Niklas Persson, Director of the Hitachi Energy Business Unit, mentioned that “lPower grids are crucial to Germany’s clean energy transition. Without the grid’s ability to transport wind power from the north to areas still heavily dependent on fossil fuels in the south and west, the country will not be able to achieve decarbonisation on schedule. “.

The project is scheduled to begin operations in 2030 and will create hundreds of jobs in Germany and Sweden. In addition, Hitachi Energy will supply HVDC Light conversion technology operating at 525 kV, a state-of-the-art standard in energy efficiency.
