Orient Overseas Container Line ( OOCL ) has signed a charter agreement with Seaspan Corporation to add six new 13,000 TEU containerships to its global fleet, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable expansion and competitiveness in cargo transportation.
OOCL and Seaspan expand fleets for global operation
With an investment of up to RMB 11.2 billion ( approximately $1.5 billion USD ), these vessels, designed with advanced technology and energy savings, will enable OOCL to optimize its global logistics operation and reduce its carbon footprint .
The ships are scheduled for delivery between the fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2028 , with charter contracts extending for a period of 15 years. This agreement responds to OOCL’s strategic vision, which continuously analyses the market and the global demand for transport capacity to adapt to an environment of increasing demands for sustainability and efficiency.
The new container ships incorporate cutting-edge technology in energy efficiency, highlighting OOCL ‘s commitment to sustainability in the shipping industry. The choice of these vessels represents a commitment to economies of scale, as it will allow for the optimization of resources and operation with lower energy consumption, thus complying with international regulations on polluting emissions.
