Mitsubishi Power has completed construction of a 50-megawatt ( MW ) woody biomass-fired power plant in Hyuga City, Miyazaki Prefecture. This facility enhances the development of clean energy technologies in Japan.
Mitsubishi Power’s 50 MW biomass plant
The plant will be operated by Hyuga Biomass Power , and has been developed under a turnkey engineering, procurement and construction ( EPC ) contract by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries ( MHI ). The facility is equipped with a steam turbine and a circulating fluidized bed ( CFB ) boiler, allowing for high combustion efficiency, optimizing power generation and reducing its environmental impact.
Construction was completed on time and within the agreed budget, demonstrating Mitsubishi Power ’s ability to manage complex renewable energy projects. In addition, this project involved important partners, such as Osaka Gas and ITOCHU Corporation , who brought experience in the operation of the plant, contributing to its success.
The biomass used in this plant comes primarily from sustainable forest resources, ensuring a low impact on the environment while producing clean energy. In addition, the plant’s efficient design improves the conversion of biomass into energy, and optimizes emissions reduction, aligning with Japan’s environmental policies.
