Tesla’s ” We, Robot “ event, held on October 10 in California, showcased the company’s vision for the future of transportation with several key technological advancements. The highlights were the unveiling of the Cybercab and the Robovan : two robotaxis that have (and will continue to) generated a lot of buzz.
During the event, Musk highlighted the advantages of Tesla’s full autonomy, which promises to drastically reduce operating costs, explaining that an autonomous car can be used up to five times longer than a conventional vehicle.
These autonomous taxis will rely entirely on Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology, which works solely with cameras, forgoing expensive radar or LiDAR systems.
Cybercab: a low-cost robotaxi
The Cybercab is an autonomous electric vehicle with no steering wheel or pedals, equipped with butterfly doors, designed to offer safe and affordable mobility.
Elon Musk stressed that this vehicle, inspired by the Cybertruck , will be available for less than $30,000 and that Tesla plans to mass-produce it before 2027.
Robovan: a futuristic bus
Another big surprise of the night was the Robovan , an autonomous bus designed to transport up to 20 people or goods, with a completely futuristic look and a spacious cabin. According to Musk, this vehicle will not only revolutionize high-density transportation, but will also reclaim urban spaces such as parking lots, transforming them into parks.
Optimus was an excellent host
The event also served as a platform to showcase the advances of the Optimus robot , which Musk says will be a fundamental part of the future. Optimus interacted with attendees, serving drinks and demonstrating its versatility in everyday tasks.
Musk predicted that within a few years these robots would be available to the public at an affordable price, predicting an “era of technological abundance.”
