The future of construction is taking shape in the desert of Marfa, Texas, with the creation of the world’s first 3D printed hotel . ICON, a leader in advanced construction technologies, and El Cosmico, a hotel-campground known for its unique approach to hospitality, have joined forces for this innovative project.

The design, by renowned studio BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group, features organic, futuristic architecture, curvilinear shapes, domes and parabolic structures that can only be achieved through large-scale 3D printing. The new hotel and residences, set on more than 60 acres, not only promise to revolutionize the way we experience desert luxury, but also create a positive cultural and economic impact on the Marfa community.

3D printed hotel: Liz Lambert’s dream

According to Liz Lambert, creator of El Cosmico, this project is the culmination of a dream she has cultivated for years. Lambert stressed the importance of being able to offer more economic opportunities and quality jobs to the local community, while reimagining the interaction between art, nature and hospitality in this corner of far West Texas.

ICON , known for pioneering 3D printing for large-scale construction, is using its advanced technology to bring this project to life. The company stands out for its ability to create innovative structures with sustainable materials, reducing costs and construction times. Its CEO, Jason Ballard, explained that this is one of the most ambitious projects they have undertaken to date, integrating high-end hospitality with affordable 3D-printed housing, designed based on a global architectural competition.

The new El Cosmico development is expected to be completed by 2026, while the current hotel will continue to operate until 2025. Lovers of futuristic architecture and technology will soon have one more reason to visit Marfa, where the past and future merge in a unique setting.
