China completes and delivers largest oil rig to Saudi Aramco

On August 12, the largest oil platform for the gathering and transportation of hydrocarbons and Marjan gas, owned by Saudi Arabian Oil Company(Saudi Aramco) and built by China Offshore Oil Engineering(COOEC), was completed and delivered to Qingdao, Shandong province.

The Mazan platform is designed for the gathering and transportation of crude oil and natural gas from the deep sea to the mainland. It has a structure of 8 piles, and an impressive capacity of 24 million tons of crude oil and 7.4 billion cubic meters of gas per year. This infrastructure is one of the largest and most complex of its kind, weighing more than 17,200 tons and with a deck area larger than 15 basketball courts.

The project is part of Saudi Aramco’s Marjan oil field production enhancement plan, and positions the platform as the world leader in oil and gas processing capacity. Offshore Oil Engineering was responsible for construction, testing and shipping, ensuring that the platform met the strictest international the most stringent international standards and using advanced technologies such as automatic composite welding and ultrasonic inspection.

COOEC has been a pioneer in implementing innovative construction models, developing an intelligent management platform that optimizes the integration and visualization of operations. This project is the first that the company has undertaken as a consortium general contractor for Saudi Aramco, setting a precedent for future high-level collaborations.
