During a ceremony at the CSSC Huangpu-Wenchong shipyard, the christening of AAL Hamburg, the newest of AAL Shipping’s eight Super B-Class heavy lift vessels, took place. Soon, this vessel will set sail for Europe on its maiden voyage, marking the beginning of its operations.
Heavy lift vessel AAL Hamburg launches into the sea
This 32,000 dwt vessel, suitable for dual-fuel use, is a dual-fuel is equipped with three high-capacity cranes on the port side, each with a capacity of 350 tons and a combined lifting capacity of up to 700 tons. It stands out for incorporating a significant AAL innovation, the “AAL ECO-DECK”, a retractable deck system that expands the available deck stowage space to more than 5,200 m². This system will be installed on all Super B series vessels.
On its maiden voyage, the AAL Hamburg will carry a diverse project cargo ranging from ducts and panels to transformers and accessories, along with four barges totaling approximately 5,600 tons. This voyage not only proves the vessel’s capability, but also highlights the usefulness of the ECO-DECK.
Commitment to sustainability and efficiency
Christophe Grammare, CEO of AAL, noted that the launch of AAL Hamburg and the success of AAL Limassol reflect a long-term strategy to strengthen the company’s fleet, ensuring it is capable of handling a variety of cargo types and industries. Schoeller Holdings, the parent company, remains committed to modernizing the fleet and ensuring that its operation is environmentally friendly and complies with all international regulations.
Likewise, the addition of AAL Newcastle and AAL Mumbai, which are part of a recent order and can handle up to 800 tons of heavy lift, brings the total to eight vessels in the Super B class, with deliveries scheduled through 2026. According to Grammare, the diversity in the cargo carried by AAL Limassol demonstrates the fleet’s ability to adapt and handle large volumes, a trend that AAL Hamburg is poised to continue.
