Tokyo Gas espera más ventas de gas urbano

According to the projection made on April 25 by Tokyo Gas, urban gas sales are expected to increase in the next fiscal year to 11,422 million m³, representing an increase of 1.1% compared to the previous year. The expected increase is due to a forecast of 3.4% growth in sales to the residential sector, following a period of warm weather during 2023-24.

Growth in urban gas sales from other companies

On the other hand, Toho Gas forecasts a 1.2% increase in its urban gas sales for 2024-25, reaching 3.4 billion m³, with a 5.6% growth in residential sales and an increase of 0. 3% in industrial and commercial sales. Saibu Gas also expects a 2.3% increase in its sales compared to the previous year, reaching 940 million m³ in 2024-25, continuing an upward trend after having expanded its sales by 3% in the previous fiscal year. .

Perspectives and challenges in sales

Despite these optimistic forecasts, projected sales for 2024-25 remain lower compared to the levels recorded in 2022-23 for Tokyo Gas and Toho Gas. However, an increase in sales could boost demand for its main raw material, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). It should be noted that, according to data from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the country’s urban gas production in 2022-23 amounted to 35 billion m³, requiring 25.5 million tons of LNG.

The projected increase in sales reflects both market demand and continued efforts toward a more diversified and sustainable energy infrastructure in Japan. This push suggests a gradual transition towards cleaner and more efficient energy sources, which could have significant implications on the country’s economy and environment.
