Pan American Industries’ IrisXR Innovating Ultrasonic Inspection at ASNT 2023
From Houston, Texas during the ASNT 2023 annual conference, Richard Blaser from Inspenet had the pleasure of interviewing Mark Novsad of the Research and Development team at Pan American Industries, shared with INSPENET the revolutionary capabilities of the IrisXR ultrasonic inspection system.
Intelligence in Pipe Inspection
The IrisXR is a system that redefines the way industries can approach pipe analysis. This technology allows users to perform C-SCANs of pipes to measure remaining wall thicknesses at any point on the circumference of the pipe, and is applicable on a wide range of materials, including carbon steel and brass.
Flexibility and Accuracy
Adaptability is the key with IrisXR, which can inspect pipes with diameters from 0.34 to 44 inches. The technique is based on a centering device that holds an ultrasonic transducer oriented by an angled mirror to scan the entire circumference of the pipe, allowing a detailed and complete inspection with a single transducer.
A Complete View
The C-SCAN assigns colors to different thicknesses, providing a view as if the pipe were “opening up” and revealing variations in wall thickness.
Made-in-Texas Technology
Pan American Industries not only created the software behind IrisXR but also the hardware, all built 20 miles north of Houston, Texas. This proximity to innovation and manufacturing is testament to the company’s commitment to excellence and local technology.
Community Engagement
As regular conference attendees, Pan American Industries values the opportunity to share its innovations and connect with the community. This year’s conference was another opportunity to highlight how IrisXR can benefit the industry with its advanced ultrasonic inspection technology.
