“We have some challenges that we are seeing, even with a vision of what we are seeing in the future for the prospecting, research and development of new technologies related to corrosion. So, today we see the carbon capture part, the transport of that carbon due to decarbonization, we have the nanotechnology part, the Artificial Intelligence part, all of that.”
Petrobras challenges to mitigate corrosion in the Oil and Gas industry
In the case of Petrobras, the biggest corrosion challenge was the discovery of pre-salt. Pre-salt wells are very corrosive, so Petrobras had to accelerate the development of new materials and techniques to prevent corrosion. There were also challenges in the Marlin field gas, but these were minor.
Thanks to Petrobras’ efforts, the company has made great progress in preventing corrosion. However, Dr. Magalhães warns that the company does not want to have any more surprises, so it is working on a vision for the future to anticipate any challenges that may arise.
