Inspenet was honored to interview Pratt Summers, Chairman of the Board of the International Liquid Terminals Association (ILTA), during the ILTA 2024 conference. The interview took place at the Inspenet booth on the show floor, where Summers shared his perspectives on the event and the industry.

Noting that the conference attracted between 700 and 800 registered attendees, in addition to numerous visits to the show floor featuring approximately 360 exhibitors. Summers noted the increased excitement and energy this year, thanks in part to the participation of former President George W. Bush as a keynote speaker.
In conversation, Summers mentioned that ILTA is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and recalled how the association has grown and evolved since its founding in 1974. While tank and pump technology has remained relatively constant, regulations and legislation have changed significantly, impacting the way the industry operates today.
Summers also underscored the pivotal role ILTA plays in representing the terminal industry in Washington D.C., advocating for regulations that benefit its members. He also spoke about the importance of sustainability and how terminals are at the forefront of the transition to green energy, handling products such as renewable diesel and methanol.
ILTA Strengthens Advocacy with New Committee, Invites Industry Collaboration
For the coming year, ILTA plans to continue to grow under the leadership of its new president, Leakhena Swett. A new government affairs committee has been established to increase the association’s lobbying efforts and voice in the nation’s capital.
Summers concluded the interview by inviting terminal industry professionals to join and participate in ILTA, highlighting the opportunity to shape the industry through collaboration on various association committees.
