From Houston, Texas during the ASNT 2023 annual conference, Richard Blaser from Inspenet had the pleasure of interviewing Martin Wissink, Senior Applications Engineer, and Samantha Wenkman, Customer Success Manager, both from Phoenix Neutron Imaging, a Madison, Wisconsin-based company specializing in neutron radiography. This service, complementary to X-ray radiography, is especially useful for components in aerospace applications where X-rays are not efficient enough.
Phoenix Neutron Imaging differs from others in the market because, instead of using conventional nuclear reactors for neutron imaging, they use a source based on privately owned particle accelerators. This alternative gives them greater flexibility in their operations and avoids the excessive regulation faced by many of their competitors.
Although they are primarily based in Madison, their reach is global. They have worked on U.S.-based defense projects as well as with non-military application customers in various parts of the world.
Finally, both highlighted the importance of the ASNT event, mentioning “how exciting it is to meet industry colleagues and put faces to many familiar names.“
