The reason behind the drilling of the earth’s crust<\/h3>\n\n

A team of Chinese engineers has been drilling an extremely deep well into the Earth’s crust for scientific purposes since May. So far, they have managed to reach a depth of 6,000 meters.<\/p>\n\n

The well is located deep inside the Taklimakan Desert, which is the largest desert in China<\/a><\/strong> . The final depth of the well is expected to be 11,100 meters<\/strong> .<\/p>\n\n

During the drilling process, the equipment used, including drill bits and tubes weighing more than 2,000 tons, goes deep into the Earth, breaking through more than 10 continental layers<\/strong> , Xinhua reports.<\/p>\n\n

Exploration in the Tarim Basin is especially challenging due to its hostile terrestrial environment and the challenging underground conditions it presents.<\/p>\n\n

Notably, the record for the deepest well dug by humans remains the Kola super-deep well, located near Murmansk in the Russian Arctic. This project, initiated by the Soviet Union in 1970, reached a depth of 12,262 meters and was closed in 2008.<\/p>\n\n
