Puerto Cort\u00e9s in Honduras has received the world’s first container ship converted from conventional diesel to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) propulsion, named Seaboard Blue. The Vessel operated on conventional diesel until it was refitted in 2017 to run on LNG.<\/p>\n\n

The vessel, operated by Seaboard Marine<\/a> , has a capacity of 1,000 TEU and a total length of 151.72 meters, and can run on biofuel and liquefied natural gas, which significantly reduces emissions of polluting gases in cargo transportation.<\/p>\n\n

The arrival of the Seaboard Blue is an important milestone in the cargo transportation industry in the region, since the use of gas allows greater efficiency and sustainability in the transport of goods. The new vessel is expected to make regular rotations to Puerto Cort\u00e9s, which will further strengthen the shipping company’s services in the region.<\/p>\n\n

Puerto Cort\u00e9s has been grabbing headlines since the beginning of this year with investments in infrastructure, technology and equipment, aimed at optimizing traffic flow and improving efficiency in the maritime terminals of the Central American country. In January 2023, the terminal announced the acquisition of two new Konecranes model 4532 TCE 5 Reach Stackers (RS) for a value of US$1.13 million, adding to the 18 similar units that the terminal already has.<\/p>\n\n

The arrival of the Seaboard Blue was celebrated by executives from Seaboard Honduras, agents from Seaboard Marine and representatives from the Central American Port Operator, who highlighted the importance of sustainable business practices. The general manager of Seaboard Honduras, Daisy Pastor, affirmed that the fact is a key step towards more sustainable commercial relations, in line with the evolution of the cargo transportation industry and the supply chain.<\/p>\n\n
