The first phase of the Puerto Pe\u00f1asco solar plant, the flagship of the Sonora Plan to supply energy to North America, began operations with the inauguration by President Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“With this plant we can say that we have clean energy for the future development of Sonora and the north of our continent,” he commented during the inauguration of this solar plant, considered the largest in Latin America and the seventh in the world, according to himself. Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mexican president said that part of the Sonora Plan is also to boost and promote the electric car industry with its main trading partners: the United States and Canada, which promote the transition to zero-emission vehicles and the supply of energy from renewable sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“So we already have clean energy here and we also have copper in Sonora and we have, in Sonora, a strategic mineral for the construction of batteries: lithium,” he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This first stage of solar development, concluded in 11 months and which the president proposed to call “Rafael Galv\u00e1n”, will benefit 64,300 homes with electricity, in addition to promoting economic growth in the towns of Puerto Pe\u00f1asco, Caborca, Sonoyta, Pitiquito, Altar, all in the state of Sonora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has a capacity to generate 120 megawatts (MW) and more than 12 thousand MW with backup batteries, according to projections by the state Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), in charge of its construction since March 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his part, the director of the CFE, Manuel Bartlett, explained that the second phase of this solar panel complex, which is being built on 2,000 hectares, is already being developed and will end in June 2024, before the end of L\u00f3pez’s term. Workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This second stage, he said, will inject 300 MW and 600 more with backup batteries to the Mexican electricity system and in favor of 16,800 homes in the communities of R\u00edo Colorado, in Sonora, but also in Ensenada, Tecate and Mexicali, all in the border state. from Baja California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bartlett also highlighted the historic construction of a 190-kilometer electricity transmission line that will integrate the state of Baja California, like never before, into the Mexican electrical system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The construction of the transmission line that will integrate Baja California into the national electrical system is, without a doubt, a historic event,” emphasized the director of the CFE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon completion, it is estimated that this solar power plant will have the capacity to generate up to 1,000 megawatts of electricity and benefit 1.6 million Mexicans, equivalent to 536,000 homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project has the support of the United States and an amount of public investment from Mexico of 1,644 million dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
