A partnership between the companies CTG and Goldwind has resulted in a mammoth 16 MW wind turbine, which came off the production line this week in the eastern Chinese province of Fujian.<\/p>\n\n

The turbine features the largest single unit capacity in the world and the largest impeller. With a propeller diameter of 252 meters, the wind turbine covers a swept area of 50,000 square meters, equivalent to seven standard football fields, according to a press release from the China Three Gorges Corp sent to the Global Times.<\/p>\n\n

This development is carried out just a few months after the launch of this same company of a 13.6 MW model.<\/p>\n\n

This 16 MW version has become the most powerful that has been built to date, with a rotor diameter of 252 meters and a swept area of 50,000 square meters.<\/p>\n\n

Under nominal working conditions, a single unit can generate 34.2 kWh per spin and an average annual production of more than 66 million kWh, enough for each unit to cover the consumption of 36,000 three-member households for one year, saving the emission of 54,000 tons of CO2 each year.<\/p>\n\n

A development that, in addition to record power figures, is also accompanied by important technological advances. As Goldwind’s chief engineer Zhai Endi explains: \u201cThe 16MW unit has made significant technological advances in R&D and manufacturing of key core components, such as large main shaft bearings and ultra-long, lighter blades.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
