INPEX and Pertamina Drive Strategic Abadi LNG<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Japanese INPEX Corporation has decided to extend its essential agreement with PT Pertamina (Persero) to accelerate the development of the Abadi LNG project in Indonesia. This move strengthens an alliance that has been consolidating since 2023, but now takes on a more operational and strategic dimension. <\/p>\n\n

This extension not only maintains cooperation but also directly aims to unlock critical investment decisions (FID) in one of Southeast Asia’s largest gas projects. This positions the project as a decisive component in Asia’s future LNG supply. <\/p>\n\n

Located in the Masela block in the Arafura Sea, the Abadi LNG project represents a strategic energy hub for Japan and Indonesia, especially in a context of increasing regional demand for liquefied natural gas <\/a>as a transition fuel.<\/p>\n\n

New Upstream MOU Expands Regional Technical Scope<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

In parallel, INPEX signed a second agreement with PT Pertamina Hulu Energi, specifically focused on the upstream business in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. This move significantly expands the technical scope of the collaboration. <\/p>\n\n

This new MOU is significant: it establishes a platform for sharing capabilities in exploration, field development, and production optimization in a region with complex geologies and high, yet undeveloped, gas potential.<\/p>\n\n

The strategy reveals a clear focus: integrating the entire chain, from upstream to liquefaction and export. This vertical integration has a high impact on reducing costs, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring the economic viability of large-scale offshore projects. <\/p>\n\n

Abadi LNG as the Core of the 2035 Gas Strategy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Both agreements directly align with INPEX’s long-term corporate vision, particularly its energy roadmap defined in INPEX Vision 2035. In this vision, natural gas and LNG play a central role as vectors of energy transition. <\/p>\n\n

The Abadi LNG project will not only provide volume but also resilience to the company’s energy portfolio, enabling it to compete in highly demanding markets such as Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n\n

Additionally, INPEX seeks to complement this expansion with low-emission technologies such as carbon capture and storage (CCS) and hydrogen, consolidating a dual approach: growth in gas and progressive decarbonization.<\/p>\n\n
