These vessels, built in 2015 and equipped with ACS6000 converters, now feature updated technology that promises to keep them operational for <strong>at least another decade<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>The intervention included the selective replacement of electronic and control components, while retaining mechanical parts and existing infrastructure. This approach minimized operational disruption, allowing CoolCo to integrate technological advancements without compromising its logistical schedule. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">UCU Platform: Technology with Impact<\/h2>\n\n<p>Among the implemented improvements, the incorporation of ABB&#8217;s <strong>Universal Control Unit (UCU)<\/strong> stands out. This platform offers greater processing capacity, advanced tools for <strong><a href=\"\/?categoria_articulos=instrumentacion-en-mantenimiento-industrial#toc_heading-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">predictive maintenance<\/a><\/strong>, and more efficient fault resolution, which increases the availability and reliability of the propulsion systems.<\/p>\n\n<p>Thanks to these updates, ABB was able to extend the warranty on the drives to 24 months, while reinforcing its technical support and spare parts availability throughout the equipment&#8217;s lifecycle.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Circular Economy Applied to Maritime Transport<\/h2>\n\n<p>The adopted strategy aligns with circular economy principles, a key aspect for both ABB and CoolCo. By retaining structural and mechanical elements, the consumption of raw materials was reduced, and the disposal of components in good condition was avoided. This generated not only economic but also environmental benefits, by preserving embodied carbon and reducing the impact associated with manufacturing new equipment.  <\/p>\n\n<p>According to ABB, these types of modernizations represent an effective way to reduce industrial waste and advance towards a more sustainable and resilient <strong><a href=\"\/?categoria_articulos=tecnologias-satelitales-industria-maritima\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">maritime industry<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Strategic Cooperation and Tangible Results<\/h2>\n\n<p>The work was carried out at a shipyard in China, taking advantage of other scheduled maintenance interventions by CoolCo.
