During an interview conducted at an international energy sector conference, Jos\u00e9 Sierra, Senior Manager of Global Operations for Latin America at AMPP<\/a><\/strong>, highlighted the region’s increasing role in the development of new energies, especially in green hydrogen projects.<\/p>\n\n

The Growth of Green Hydrogen in Latin America<\/h2>\n\n

Sierra explained that the participation of Latin American countries in these events has grown steadily in recent years, reflecting the region’s interest and progress in emerging energy technologies<\/a><\/strong>. As an example, he mentioned that Brazil is already among the top ten countries with the highest attendance at this type of international conference, an indicator of the region’s dynamism in the sector. <\/p>\n\n

According to the AMPP executive, Latin America is making significant progress in projects related to clean energy and energy transition, particularly in the development of green hydrogen initiatives. This progress positions several countries in the region as relevant players within the global energy landscape. <\/p>\n\n

However, Sierra also noted that one of the main current technical challenges is hydrogen transport<\/a><\/strong>, especially in the context of existing infrastructure. In this regard, he explained that one of the topics of greatest interest to the industry is evaluating the feasibility of using old gas and oil pipelines\u2014originally designed for oil and gas\u2014to transport hydrogen. <\/p>\n\n

The Challenge of Adapting Pipelines for New Energies<\/h2>\n\n

This technical challenge is part of AMPP’s efforts to support its members and clients in adapting traditional energy infrastructures to the new needs of the energy transition, including aspects related to material integ<\/a>r<\/a>ity<\/a><\/strong>, corrosion, and safety in hydrogen transport.<\/p>\n\n

The conversation concluded with the expectation of continuing to delve into these topics during the conference, where Latin America’s role in the evolution of the energy sector is expected to be further analyzed.<\/p>\n\n
