Preliminary estimates suggest the size of the reserve is equivalent to 140 million barrels of crude, Eni said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n<p>&#8220;During the production test, the well delivered 7,000 barrels of oil per day and 5 million standard cubic feet per day of associated gas,&#8221; the Algerian-Italian partnership Sonatrach-Eni recently reported.<\/p>\n\n<p>The finding is part of the exploration works in the Zemlet el Arbi concession, located about 300 kilometers southeast of the municipality of Hassi Messaoud, near the border with Tunisia.<\/p>\n\n<p>&#8220;This is the first well in an exploration campaign that plans to drill five in the northern region of the Berkine basin,&#8221; Sonatrach stressed.<\/p>\n\n<p>The well is located in a &#8220;net productive zone with excellent petrophysical characteristics&#8221;, 15 kilometers from the refinery associated with the project.<\/p>\n\n<p>With studies, analyses, and through a &#8216;fast-track&#8217; development mechanism, the Sonatrach-Eni partnership plans to &#8220;accelerate&#8221; the production phase, whose start-up is scheduled for the third quarter of 2022.
