Offshore operator Akrake Petroleum, a subsidiary of Rex International Holding, has completed drilling operations for the drilling operations on the AK-2H well<\/a><\/strong> of the AK-2H well in the S\u00e8m\u00e8 field, located in Block 1 offshore Benin. This infrastructure is part of the reactivation phase of an asset that had been inactive for nearly three decades. <\/p>\n\n

Technical completion and final preparations<\/h2>\n\n

In the next few days, the completion stage of the well will be carried out, including the placement of filters on the sandstone formation and the installation of an electrosubmersible pump (ESP). This configuration seeks to maximize hydrocarbon hydrocarbon production <\/a><\/strong>in the western section of the H6 reservoir. <\/p>\n\n

At the same time, offshore offshore platforms<\/a><\/strong> platforms needed to start extraction are about to come on stream. The Stella Energy Mobile Production Unit 1 (MOPU) and the Kristina Floating Storage and Offloading Unit (FSO) are in the final stages of installation. <\/p>\n\n

Return of a key field to regional oil production<\/h2>\n\n

The S\u00e8m\u00e8 field<\/a><\/strong>field, closed since the late 1990s, is now emerging as a new production hub in the region thanks to Rex Group’s technology and operational support. The reactivation represents a bid to revitalize Benin’s offshore oil infrastructure. <\/p>\n\n

Innovation applied to mature fields<\/h2>\n\n

Rex International has focused its strategy on minimizing risk through the use of its patented Rex Virtual Drilling technology, which identifies the presence of liquids in the subsurface from seismic data. This capability has been key in determining the zones of greatest productive potential within the field. <\/p>\n\n

The AK-2H is expected to be commissioned during the first week of February 2026, marking the formal restart of production activity at this asset.<\/p>\n\n
