This reactivation marks the completion of its <strong>27th Refueling<\/strong>, a crucial stage in which <strong>ANAV<\/strong> (Asc\u00f3-Vandell\u00f3s II Nuclear Association) has allocated <strong>24.5 million euros.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p>During the technical shutdown, <strong>some 1,000 professionals<\/strong> of different profiles participated in the scheduled tasks. More than half of them live in the region where the plant is located, which reinforces the positive impact of Vandell\u00f3s II on the economic and social environment. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reactor refurbishment and in-depth maintenance<\/h2>\n\n<p>As part of the work performed, <strong>60 of the 157 reactor core elements<\/strong> were <strong>replaced<\/strong>. In addition, <strong>nearly 9,000 work orders<\/strong> were executed and <strong>25 design modifications<\/strong> were made to different systems. <\/p>\n\n<p>Some of the most outstanding actions include:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Volumetric and eddy current inspection at the bottom of the reactor vessel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Overhaul of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/garigliano-nuclear-power-plant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">internal reactor components<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mechanized inspection of the vessel and visual inspection of its lid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cleaning of steam generators by <em>sludge lancing<\/em> technique.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Replacement of the &#8216;B&#8217; reactor cooling pump motor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Replacement of the three safety valves of the pressurizer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Complete overhaul on generators and turbine system<\/h2>\n\n<p>In parallel, <strong>the safety diesel generators<\/strong> underwent a complete overhaul of their two engines, while the <strong>secondary circuit<\/strong> underwent improvements such as <strong>partial replacement of the high-pressure turbine blades<\/strong> and <strong>condenser expansion joints<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>The works not only ensured the stability of the new cycle, but were also part of a strategic plan to prepare <strong>Vandell\u00f3s II to continue operating beyond 40 years<\/strong>, a milestone that will be reached in December 2027. The inspections and technical upgrades are aligned with the standards required to extend the useful life of nuclear facilities. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/rolls-royce-smr-and-bwxt-present-alliance-to-manufacture-nuclear-steam-generators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nuclear facilities<\/a><\/strong> in Spain. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What&#8217;s next<\/h2>\n\n<p>ANAV has already marked on the calendar its next major intervention; it will be in the <strong>spring of 2026<\/strong>, when the <strong>31st refueling of unit 1 of the Asc\u00f3 nuclear power plant<\/strong> will take place.
