The vessels will be built at <strong>Japan Marine United Corporation<\/strong> and <strong>Nihon Shipyard<\/strong>, registering the first use of rotor sails on VLCCs, with delivery scheduled for the end of 2028. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The supply of rotor sails and VLCCs from Idemitsu Tankers<\/h2>\n\n<p>The agreement is part of <em>Idemitsu <\/em>&#8216;s commitment to reduce emissions and promote sustainable transportation technologies. In addition, the <g id=\"gid_1\">inclusion of the rotor sails<\/g> is estimated to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, aiding in the decarbonization of shipping. The <strong>supertankers <\/strong>will also be designed to be compatible with future low-carbon fuels such as methanol.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Heikki P\u00f6ntynen, CEO of Norsepower, mentioned that this project, the first newbuild in Japan, highlights the confidence in the technology and its relevance to tankers. Norsepower has installed 22 units on different types of tankers and the integration of the technology on the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/mol-christens-dual-fuel-vlcc-vessel-energia-viking\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"283249\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VLCC<\/a><\/strong> is a major breakthrough. <\/p>\n\n<p>The rotor sail is a modern version of the <strong>Flettner rotor,<\/strong> a rotating cylinder that uses the <em>Magnus Effect<\/em> to generate wind propulsion.
