With a projected capacity of 2,000 megawatts (MW), this plant will play a crucial role in Qatar’s strategy of decarbonization strategy.

A strategic agreement to transform the energy matrix

The EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract was signed in Doha by the Minister of State for Energy Affairs and chairman of QatarEnergy, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, together with Sechul Oh, president and CEO of Samsung C&T. The event was also attended by the chairman of KAHRAMAA, the national electricity and water company, which will receive the energy produced.

The site selected for the Dukhan solar plant is located about 80 km west of Doha and will cover an area of 27 square kilometers. Samsung will install 2.74 million solar panels with solar tracking system to maximize energy harvesting even in extreme desert conditions.

Large-scale clean energy

The plant will be developed in two phases, the first will deliver 1,000 MW to the KAHRAMAA grid by the end of 2028, while the second will complete the 2,000 MW by mid-2029. This capacity will double the current production of solar power and cover up to 30 % of the country’s peak electricity demand.

Likewise, the facility will reduce 4.7 million tons of CO₂ emissions per year, reinforcing Qatar’s commitment to global climate goals and its own National Vision 2030, which seeks to balance economic development and environmental sustainability.

Qatar accelerates towards a renewable future

The Dukhan solar plant will join the already operational Al-Kharsaah, Mesaieed and Ras Laffan plants in a broader plan with which QatarEnergy hopes to reach more than 4,000 MW of installed renewable energy by 2030.

From Samsung‘s leading global supplier in the construction of large-scale solar projects, this contract strengthens its position as a leading global supplier in the construction of large-scale solar projects and consolidates its presence in the Middle East region.

Source and photo: QatarEnergy

The project will double Qatar’s solar capacity and cover up to 30% of the country’s electricity demand.

[13026,13044

post-321368","noticias","type-noticias","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","categoria_noticias-energy","categoria_noticias-new-energies
["GET
